Luke 5:5-8 And Simon answered and said, Master, we toiled all night, and took nothing: but at thy word I will let down the nets. And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes; and their nets were breaking; and they beckoned unto their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
In today’s message we read about Peter who failed and failed yet when instructed by Jesus put the nets in a place where a fisherman with experience would not and he got such a large catch that his nets were about to tear, it was on this he realized the extraordinary happening.
In yesterday’s message we saw love and obedience was correlated. In today’s message we see the glory of God can be seen when we abide in Him (His instructions).
In my previous messages I have mentioned that faith comes not by hearing and hearing the Word of God but by hearing and listening to the Word of God, the second hearing is in active tense.
If we look at any promise of God in scriptures we find all of them have a condition and only when we abide in that condition we find we become recipients of that promise. This does not make God like a human who gives only when he or she gets.
We need to understand it is our disobedience that obstructs our blessings and it is our obedience which opens the doors to our blessings. The Hebrew word ‘barak’ for blessing means to quicken that which is already given thus in the Bible they spoke it (it is also translates in some places as ‘to curse’).
Today the Lord is emphasizing on our obedience to Him. Let us not a rebellious people like our fathers (ancestors) who perished, but let us abide in Christ by our obedience and thus grow in faith, in love and also see His glory in our lives.
Lord You are Almighty God. It would not take You a second to judge and finish darkness but You Lord are merciful and in your mercy have given us an opportunity to be the light that overcome the darkness by our obedience in You – your Spirit and your Word. We pray Lord we see that in little things we abide in You…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:
28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
1 Samuel 12:15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as [it was] against your fathers.
1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.
Jeremiah 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
