Hosanna to the King of Israel and the Lord of Lords

John 12:13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed [is] the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Studying of the Greek and Hebrew words (with its grammar) helps give us the right interpretation of scriptures. Referring to Strong numbers and its meaning is okay in the start but should be discontinued over a period of time since it is not very accurate, it errs on grammar and many a times takes two conjugated words are two different words, giving different meaning to them. Strong also does not help in understanding compound words so as to give the proper understanding and at time only gives part meaning.

If we take the word ‘Hosanna’ it is a compound word ‘Savior/Deliverer’ + ‘Please/Pray/Exhort’ so the word talks of exhorting the savior. Even the word ‘Israel’ is a compound word and means ‘Prince’ + ‘Almighty’, so the word means ‘Prince having power with God’. So when we use the term ‘King of Israel’ it means Chief amongst kings/prince and this term is used for Christ in 1 Timothy 6:15 and is translated as ‘King of Kings’.

Initially when I read the King of Kings I though the second ‘kings’ referred to worldly rulers but later realized it referred to us who are in Christ, to whom the Lord had given the dominance over this creation, which we lost due to corruption by sin and which Christ restores in us through His Spirit – the Holy Spirit. So we become kings again only when the corruption is removed through restoration of the image by the working of the Holy Spirit and Romans 8:14 says those led by the Holy Spirit become Sons of God. We also need to note He as ‘Son of Man’ is chief of the Shepherds, He also sits on throne and leads the Angels/Saints on Judgment Day as chief on them. Matthew 22:30 says we will be Angels when we resurrect.

If we look at all these scriptures together then we see Christ is called King of Israel, King/Chief of Kings, Chief of Sons of God, Chief of Angels, Chief of Shepherds so that makes us the Israel, kings, Sons of God, Angels and Shepherds.

Also 2 days back we had a scripture in which Jesus Christ is stating we will be ‘gods’ {meaning ‘divine beings’} when we are renewed and become one with the God the Father in Heaven so the Lord of Lords does not mean He is greater than other worldly gods since they do not exist, it speaks of He being Lord of us.

[Prayer Starter]

Lord You God and You alone are God. You are Almighty and there is no one like You. Lord we pray we know You and know who we are in You. We pray we understand your purpose in creating us and what it means to be one with You. We pray we overcome these little problems and difficulties that trouble us and keep our eyes on to the great plan You have for us…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
